Shing-Tung Yau
Shing-Tung Yau , born the April 4th 1949, is a mathematician known for his work in differential Géométrie, and is also at the origin of the theory of the varieties of Calabi-Yau.
It was born with Shantou in the province from Guangdong (China) in a family from eight children. His/her father, a professor of philosophy, died whereas Shing-Tung Yau was 14 years old.
Yau moved for HongKong with her family, where he studied the Mathématiques with the Chinese Université of HongKong of 1966 to 1969. He undertook then studies with the the University of California, where its tutor was Shiing-Shen Chern. After having received its Ph.D in 1971, it spent one year to the Institute for Advanced Study. Then it spent two years as a professor attending the Université Stony Brook.
In 1974 it was named professor with the Université of Stanford. It turned over to Institute for Advanced Study as a professor in 1979.Il was professor with the the University of California with San Diego of 1984 to 1987. In 1987, he became professor with Harvard, station which he always occupies.
Yau received a certain number of rewards, of which the Médaille Fields in 1982 for these contributions concerning the partial derivative equations, as well as the Prix Crafoord in 1994 and the scientific medal national American in 1997.
