Shimoda

Shimoda (下田市, Shimoda-shi ) is a city (市, shi ) and a port located at the southern end of the Péninsule of Izu, in the Préfecture of Shizuoka, with the Japan. Population of the east city of 2756 inhabitants for a surface of 104.67 km ² (2003). It difficult to reach, because of the marshes which surround it. They a long time protected the city besides from the Shina rebels, who did not manage to reach it, not knowing how to cross this obstacle.

Shimoda is famous to have been one of the three ports open the abroads by the Convention of Kanagawa signed in 1854 under the cane of the commodore Matthew Perry.
