Shimabara (島原市; - shi) is a Japanese city of the Préfecture of Nagasaki located in the north-eastern point of the peninsula of Shimabara, the city faces the Ariake bay in the east and the mounts Uzendake and Fugendake in the west.

The tourist destination of the city is the castle of Shimabara with the street of the Samurais located at side, one also finds in Shimabara of the onsen (warm water thermal spas).

In 2005, the city had a population of: 50081 inhabitants for a density of 660,78 hab/km ². Total surface area of the east city of 82,76 km ².

The city was used as a basis for rebellious in 1637.

The city was founded on April 1st, 1940.
