Shikantaza (Japanese) means " just asseoir".

Introduction

Shikantaza is a design of the school Zen Soto which describes the meditation Zazen. Whereas the practice of zazen, sitted meditation joining together Attention and Concentration, seems to have certain aims, and to rest on methods, a framework, etc, the idea conveyed by shikantaza are that zazen should not be practiced while wondering about the practice, or while hoping to obtain some benefit from it, but simply while sitting down.

Shikantaza thus does not indicate as well a technique with whole share as the mental attitude suitable for the practice of zazen, the to release taken . It is a question of being detached, within the meaning of leaving the feelings and the thoughts to emerge and disappear without seeking to maintain them nor to evacuate them. Thus, the thoughts disappear from themselves, by the fact that contemplating it does not seek anything in particular.

Shikantaza points a success of the practice, the achievement of waked up nature presents of each one, but whose demonstration proves blocked by the Attachement, including with the practice of the meditation, where contemplating which practices Shikantaza gave up reaching anything.
