Shigatse
Shigatse (officially: Xigazê ; Tibetan: གཞིས་ཀ་རྩེ་ ; Wylie transliteration: Gzhis-ka-rtse ; Chinese simplified 日喀则; traditional 日喀則; Pinyin Rìkāzé) is the second plus big city of the Tibet after the capital Lhassa. It is the chief town of the prefecture of Xigazê.
Geography
It is located at the confluence of the river Yarlung Zangbo (Yar-lung Gtsang-Po) (or Brahmapoutra) and of the river Nianchuhe (年楚河) in the west of Tibet and was the old capital of the province of the dBus-gTsang (U-Tsang).
Demography
The population of the city-county was of: 91293 inhabitants in 1999.The urban population was on this same date of: 46060 inhabitants.
Tourist sites
The close sites include/understand:- the monastery of the Tashilhunpo, traditional seat of the Panchen LAMA;
- the mount Everest.
