Shibuya

Shibuya (渋谷区, Shibuya-ku ) is one of the 23 district special (区, ku ) formant Tōkyō, with the Japan. The district was founded in 1932. The population of the district is of 195.877 inhabitants for a surface of 15.11 km ² (2005).

At the same time as in the name of the district, the name Shibuya refers to the station and the district of businesses around the station also. The station JR Is Shibuya is one of most occupied in the area of Tokyo. The district of Shibuya is known like a center of the mode and it is a well animated district. A symbol of this district for the young people is the tower 109 which contains a hundred shops devoted to the last tendencies of the mode.

In addition to the Shibuya district, there are other important districts in the district of Shibuya: Daikanyama (代官山), Ebisu (恵比寿), Harajuku (原宿), Hiroo (広尾), Sendagaya (千駄ヶ谷), Omotesando and Yoyogi (代々木).

History

After the opening of the line of Yamanote of JR in 1885 Is, Shibuya started to emerge like a railway terminus for the south-west of Tokyo, and thereafter like important entertainment centers. Shibuya was built-in like village in 1889, like city in 1909, district of the town of Tokyo in 1932, and like district of the metropolis of Tokyo in 1943. The current special district was established the March 15th 1947.

Parks and sanctuaries

  • Meiji Jingu : (明治神宮), also known under the name of Meiji sanctuary, shintoïste built 1912 with 1920 is a temple, in the rules of the Nagarezukuri style, in full heart of Meiji sanctuary, edge of the district Harajuku.
  • Shinjuku Gyoen : The national garden Shinjuku Gyoen (新宿御苑) is a park in the districts of Shinjuku (新宿区) and Shibuya with a surface of 58.3 Hectare S and a circumference of 3.5 kilometers which mix three styles distinct: English, French and Japanese.
  • Yoyogi Koen :(代々木公園 Yoyogi kōen) close to Meiji sanctuary and the station of Harajuku is one of the largest parks with Tōkyō.

Others

Close to the station of Shibuya a small statue of very famous dog is: Hachikō (ハチ公), this dog which remained faithful to its Master even after the death of this one and until its characteristic died and with which one honors the memory still today. The place where this statuette is a high place of appointment.

Dôgen-zaka is a street of the center of Shibuya famous for its nightclubs and its Love neighbouring hotel .
