Shi Tao

Shi Tao , (Sinogrammes traditional: 師濤, Sinogrammes simplified: 师涛, pinyin: Shī Tāo) (July 25th 1968 -) is a Journaliste Chinese, editor association of the Contemporary business news , in the province of the Hunan.

Revelations

It is stopped in November 2004, then condemned to 10 years of prison in April 2005 to have made public a " secrecy of État". It would have published on Internet a note of the Chinese government enjoignant the newspapers of the unintermitting not to commemorate the fifteenth birthday of the Manifestations of the place Tiananmen.

Yahoo! in the center of the controversy

According to a report/ratio of Reporters without borders, delivered the September 7th 2005, Shi Tao was located by the governmental forces thanks to furnished informations by Yahoo!, the American multinational of the Internet .

Jerry Yang, one of the cofounder of Yahoo! , the fact confirmed that the firm transmitted the coordinates of the user to the police force, but not knowing not why she wanted this information ; the company would have thus done nothing but conform to the local laws.

In its edition of the September 16th 2005, the daily newspaper French Le Monde recalls that more than 60 cyber-dissidents are currently held in China.
