The shepherd of Brie , or briard is a Sheepdog French who in the beginning was used for the guard and control of the herds.

Description

This dog with the long and flexible hairs, appreciably of the same gauge as its distance cousin the Beauceron, has like this last the characteristic to have a double pin with each one of its posterior legs. Traditionally, the briards used by the shepherds were mowed at the same time as the sheep before the summer. The briards have the ears falling on the head, since May 1st, 2004. Previously, their ears were cut out under anesthesia and were artificially drawn up. That made it possible to avoid the infections with repetition of the auditory canal of the dog. European Convention on the pets prohibited this practice. The French law specifies that " all the dogs born in France or abroad after May 1st, 2004 and having the cut ears are prohibited in contest and in exposure in France, they can neither be confirmed, nor registered with the WINDWARD SIDE on a purely initial basis, with the title of the descent, of the importation or registered voters on a book of waiting ".

The standards of Briard are very demanding.

The color of the dress of Briard must be uniform. 3 colors recognized by the standrard of race: black (black slate-coloured, gray-born blacks), deer (photo), and " bleu" (clear gray as of the birth, very rare color).

History

If one is unaware of which are the ancestors of the shepherd of Brie, however, one generally estimates that it would be the result of a crossing between the barbet spaniel and the beauceron. Race ignored a long time by its low number of individuals, mention of " Dog of Brie" only in 1863 appeared, during a canine exposure to Paris.

Character/Behavior

The briard is known for its great sociability with the children. There is calm and remains attentive with the children. This dog is also very sociable in the life of the every day and very affectionate. He adores to play, while keeping his instinct of sheepdog. He is very seldom sick.

He is also extremely obstinate, sensitive, and pot-of-adhesive.
