The sheng (笙 Pinyin : shēng), is a Musical instrument with wind and with free sheer. Organ with mouth Chinese, it goes back to 3000 before JC. It is near organologiquement many other organ with Asian mouths such as the Laotian Khên and inhabitant of Thailand, or the Shō Japanese.
It is often thought that they are Johann Wilde and the Père Amiot (respectively in 1740 and 1777) which brought back the first shengs in Europe following their voyage in China. It is however possible that the sheng has been known in Europe for several centuries already. At all events, it is only at the beginning of the 19th century that the sheng of Amiot inspired the invention of the Harmonium, of the Harmonica then of the Accordéon.
