Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor Al Masrie bin Sheikh Mustapha (born the July 27th 1972) is the first Malaysian spationaut (called Angkasawan in Malaysia).

Biography

Born with Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Sheikh Muszaphar followed its secondary studies in Maktab Rendah Sains MARA to Muar.

It then obtained a diploma for the occupation of doctor to the Kasturba Medical College, Manipal: he worked at the hospital Seremban (1998), the hospital of Kuala Lumpur (1999) and at the hospital Selayang (2000-2001). He is currently orthopedist and a professor of medicine to the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

He was selected at the beginning of 2006 with three other finalists to follow a drive to the Cité of the stars to Russia, and was finally selected as titular astronaut for Soyuz TMA-11 in September 2006. Its lining within the framework of the program was Faiz Khaleed.

Flight carried out

It flies away towards the International space station on board Soyuz TMA-11 the October 10th 2007, with the American astronaut Peggy Whitson and the Russian cosmonaut Youri Malentchenko, for a flight of more than 10 days.

It is of return on October 21st, 2007, returning on Earth with the Russian cosmonauts Fedor Iourtchikhine and Oleg Kotov, which spent six months on board International space station. The return to earth took place according to a ballistic trajectory unusual and testing for the men of crew, which arose for approximately 60 kilometers of the place envisaged, before being recovered as usual by a medical team.
