Mouton is a common French, located in the department of the Charente and the area Poitou-Charentes.

History

The ancient world

Sheep is skirted to the south by the Roman way which moves Tern to Chassenon. He was discovered ruins Gallo-Roman with concrete paving, remainders of walls covered with coating…

The nave and the frontage of the church date from the 12th century; it was elevated at the 15th century. There is no southern brace. The chorus was arched of warhead at the 15th century.

The primitive cemetery was removed about 1830. The old cemetery, closed down, was removed in 1972. There remain some old tombs () around the church and also in the old cemetery.

The priory of Sheep was given to the Saint-Martial abbey Limoges towards 910 by the count of Poitiers Aymar and his Santia wife. It is possible to follow its history until the French revolution through the bubbles, chronicles, and other documents preserved at the departmental records in Angouleme, Limoges, in private archives and with the public records.
