The she-cats are boats of two masts to gréement at the thirds and flat bottom, specific to the area of Bouin, which were used in Baie of Brittany and in the Breton Marais (in the Vendée and Loire-Atlantique). It appears at the 16th century. This boat was built with the shipyard of Bernerie-in-Retz.
It is a length of approximately 12 meters, and with a draft of less than one meter with full load.
Its characteristic is to be Amphidrome (not to have neither of front nor of back) , in order to operate more easily in the narrow étier S. It is pointed with before as with the back. The rudder of approximately 2 meters length can be assembled indifferently to an end or another.
That made of it the most widespread tradind ship in south the Loire at the 18th century, the largest victim of the British navy, and a very snuffed tool of the local smugglers. There had neither prow nor poop, and remained ideal to sail in the mazes of the étier S, to charge and discharge quickly and escape the Gabelou S.
It disappeared at the same time as export from Bouin which was found buried at the time of draining the campaigns of the Baie of Bourgneuf.
