Shawville

Shawville is a Municipalité Quebec (Canada) located in the regional Municipalité of county of the Pontiac and the administrative area of the Outaouais. The territory of this outaouaise municipality is entirely wedged in that of the municipality of the canton of Clarendon, to 30 km in the south-east of Fort-Coulonge.

Historical reference marks

At the end of the years 1860, a group of citizens of Clarendon Centers, under the direction of James Shaw, separate from the municipality of the township of Clarendon. Although one thought of naming the new Daggville establishment, of the name of a pionnière family, one chose Shawville after James Shaw had promised to make gift of 0,8 ha ground to the new municipality. First postmaster of the place of 1856 to 1877, James Shaw (1818-1877) arrives in the canton of Clarendon in 1843. The municipality is officially established in 1874 and is populated Protestant Irish colonists. On the religious level, a church methodist was built at this place in 1835, while the catholic parish of Saint-Alexandre-of-Clarendon was set up canonically in 1840. This one will take shortly after the name of Holy-Melanie, then of Saint-Jacques-the-Major in 1917.
