The Shavit ( Hebrew Comet in , one finds also the Translittération Savit ) is a Israeli rocket , derived from the missile Jericho 2, initially intended for a military use.

The three stages of the rocket are propelled by the powder combustion.

Model RSA-3 weighs 23 tons and makes 18 meters in height. It is able to carry a load of 330 kg in low Orbite if it is launched of South Africa (which had a satellite programme of launching of S with the beginning of the year 1990). On the other hand, drawn from Israel, it can carry only 160 kg. The neighbors of Israel indeed refuse to be flown over by shootings, and the rockets must thus be launched towards the west, and against the direction of rotation of the ground.

It is this model which makes a success of the first setting on orbit of an Israeli satellite, on September 19th 1988, with the first attempt. This first test was also the first shooting of the Shavit rocket. Five other shootings took place, two failed. On Monday, June 11, 2007, a Shavit rocket put on orbit successfully a satellite of military information israëlien, the Ofek -7.
