Shass

The Shass (in Hebrew ש " ס) is a Israeli Political party Séfarade and Ultra-orthodoxe monk created in 1984. Shass is the acronym of Shisha Sedarim in reference to the six orders which constitute the Michna and the Talmud.

History

Approximately half of the Jews of Israel of Séfarades are traditionally attached to the Judaïsme. Since 1948, this electorate often voted of dispute vis-a-vis the political apparatus dominated by the ashkénazes by supporting ethnic lists such as the Yemeni Association , the Union Séfarade or the Moroccan Tami . Indeed, the candidates séfarades were very rare in the whole of the political parties. These parties etnic were however transitory and lasted seldom more than one legislature.

Part of the immigrants séfarades placed their children in the ultra-orthodoxe school system. Consequently, an ultra-orthodoxe population séfarade appeared which generally voted for the Agoudat Israel. The refusal of this party to introduce candidates séfarades to control with the creation of Shass in 1984 with the blessing of the rabbi Shach.

The leaders of Shass knew to widen their electorate beyond the ultra-orthodoxe circles to attract Séfarades of any level of religious practice. It quickly became a kind of party of the pride séfarade established in all the country but very powerful as of the peripheral small towns.

Shass was victim of important scandals. Aryé Déri, the former leader of the party, even purged a custodial sentence following its judgment for corruption. Also, the rabbi Ovadia Yossef is familiar of the declarations discussed in the laic world. For example, he affirmed at the time of a weekly course that the young Jewish victims of Shoa were réincarnées hearts which had thus expié the faults made in former existences.

Structure

Shass is directed by a council of wise dominated by the rabbi Ovadia Yossef, considered as one of large the décisionnaires ( dayanim ) of the Judaism contemporrain. Its legal decisions are respected by all religious Séfarades of the world.

The current management of the party is reserved for its political leader who is Eli Yishaï.

The success of Shass is explained by the effectiveness of its network of charitable organizations, social and school who support the stripped populations séfarades. These populations constitute the majority of the inhabitants of the towns of development of the Negev and Galileo. Shass thus recently developed a school network intended for Séfarades originating in the old Soviet countries which gains an enormous success.

Political program

The political program of Shass is primarily social. He insists on the safeguard of the family benefits, social and with operation Yeshivot. It wishes to reduce unemployment and to encourage the employers to create new jobs. Shass wishes to bring a help particular to the women or any person by the granting of assistance to the companies for their professional promotion. Shass projects to draw up a social charter and economic in order to create on the market a common denominator.

At the constitutional level, Shass is based on the principle according to which the State of Israel is the State of the Jewish People. So Shass will take care of the respect of the Jewish identity in all its decisions, whatever is the field but the concept of a laic State will not accept. Shass does not call with the creation of a theocratic State but in a State equipped with a “ Jewish heart ” preserving its Jewish membership even in its legislation.

Concerning the report/ratio with Palestinian, Shass is ambivalent. Indeed, the religious law forces to him to fight for the maintenance of the whole of the ground of Israel under Jewish domination. It however enables him to support territorial concessions if these last make it possible to save lives. In practice, Shass was relatively fluctuating, supporting according to the times the Likoud or the workers party according to the financial advantages which it withdraws from its participation has a government coalition. Its deputies acquired art to abstain from or desert the Knesset at the time of the votes relating to the peace agreements including from the territorial concessions
