Located in the valley of the Rift in Ethiopia, at an altitude of approximately 2000 m and to 251 km in the south of the capital Addis-Abeba, Shashamané ( Shashämäné , ሻሸመኔ) is a city of the area of the Choa of almost 100.000 inhabitants.

Following the mobilization of the black diaspora of the whole world to help Ethiopia of Haïlé Sélassié I {{er}} against the Italian aggression of 1937,500 acres (2 km ²) of grounds was conceded to him by the Emperor in thanks. Thus from 1955 of the Rastas (primarily jamaïcains), but also of the black Jews living in America, came to settle in the city and thus regained the “Earth Mother” of which they had been torn off by the European slave company.

The February 13rd 2005, Shashamané accommodated a festival gathering several thousands of people to celebrate the sixtieth birthday of the birth of Bob Marley which had gone in the community rasta of the city in 1979. The city and its inhabitants appeared thus for the first time at the eyes of the world through the media.
