Shark dagsit

The gray shark of reef (or shark dagsit or shark with black tail ) ( Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos ) is a shark of Récif which recognizes by the black coloring of the end of its Nageoire S pectoral S and caudal; the dorsal first never shows this characteristic. As its vernacular Nom indicates it the dominant color of its body is the gray, its belly is white like the majority of the sharks. Its maximum size is of 2,30 m but in reality few individuals exceed 1,9 Mr. It can live 32 years.

Problem on the vernacular name

Attention, two species of sharks are called “gray shark”: Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos but also Carcharhinus plumbeus . For this reason, it is to better specify “Gris shark of reef” for Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos .

Distribution

Reefs and islands of the tropical band the Indo-Pacific and subtropical, of the Peaceful central to the Indian Ocean, Madagascar and Red Sea. One especially finds it near falling from the Récif S outsides and into the Passe S, of surface to 100 meters of depth.

Food

Primarily composed of Poisson S, cephalopod S and more rarely of crustacean S.

Reproduction

This shark is viviparous. Sexual maturity around 7 years, gestation period: approximately a year, from 1 to 6 embryos, cuts from 45 to 60 cm with the birth.

Behavior

Gathered in band being able to reach a few hundreds of individuals during the day, the gray sharks on the other hand are dispersed during the night, the period when they are most active.

Rather curious, this shark will not hesitate to approach the plungers 1 meter from distance to disappear little from time afterwards, on the other hand in the presence of food stimulation this shark can present a real danger.
