Shark-hammer halicorne

Description

Its body is gray pale with brown on the top and yellow or white broken below. The lower lobe of the tail and the lower points of pectoral are marked of black, at least at the young specimens. The teeth are triangular, with almost rectilinear external edges, and with oblique establishment. The first dorsal fin is large and triangular.

Habitat

Present in all the moderate and hot seas of the world, it is the Shark-hammer more abondand in coastal water. It can also be in the mouths of river and estuaries.

Reproduction

Viviparous, the period of hard gestation between 9 and 10 months, the size with the birth ranges between 40 and 55 centimetres. The small ones are born in water far from deep, and grow there.

Food

It is a large-scale consumer of cephalopods (squids and octopuses), and shellfish (crabs and shrimps). It is also ichtyophage, being nourished at the time of other sharks, including those of its species. It shows however a preference for the lines with whips, being apparently immunized against their poisonous darts.
