The district of the Share-God , located in the 3° district of Lyon, is regarded as the second center town of Lyon (after the Peninsula). This district is the second Quartier of businesses of France (after Defense, close to Paris) with 1.600.000 m ² of tertiary sector SHON and 40.000 employment.
Situé on left bank of the the Rhone, it shelters the Shopping mall and the Gare of Share-God.

History

The grounds currently constituting the district of Share-God were composed a long time of fields and unhealthy grounds subjected to the floods of the the Rhone. They belonged at the beginning of the XVIIIe century with Mrs. de Servient. She sells them in Viager with the Hospices of Lyon which recover them in 1737. They are sold in 1841 with a barracks, the district of cavalry, which will remain in activity during more than one century. In 1926, the municipality of Lyon which wished to recover the grounds to build a new district there, organized a contest of architecture, whose prize winner project envisaged the construction of two turns. This project was not born however, because of opposition of the military administration.

It should be waited until 1957 so that the ministry for Defense is solved to sell these grounds. In 1961, once the completed removal, the Town hall of Lyon repurchases the barracks to resell it in Serl, developer of the operation. In the beginning, the various projects envisage to carry out a new central district, which would include/understand a cultural pole (including/understanding a library, a concert hall…), a commercial pole, a pole of private offices (in the condition which the offices are intended for the reception of the public, an administrative pole (of which an appendix of the town hall of Lyon) and residences. The project will change nature in 1967. Oream (Organization of the Studies of the Metropolitan Surface) decides to equip the metropolis with balance (in other words Lyon-St Etienne-Grenoble) of a capable decisional center to counterbalance the importance of Paris. This center will be Share-God. A new project, structured around a East-West axis (street Servient) is presented. This project envisages the creation of a station, possibility rejected by the SNCF. Small-with-small the project moves away from what was to make its gasoline. The cultural pole ardently defended by the architect as a chief of Share-God Charles Delfante and André Malraux does not survive at the beginning of the minister. There remains about it only the library and the auditorium, each one at an end of the site. The East-West axis is destroyed by the shopping mall which spans the street servient. As-at the station, it will be necessary to wait until 1983 pourqu' it opens its doors.

However Share-God is born, slowly. A gigantic shopping mall (120 000 m ², whereas it was envisaged 50.000 m ²) is born. Buildings are built painfully until 1972, then quickly the whole of the small islands (except for 2, of which is currently in construction) find taking.

Town planning

This district dedicated to the tertiary sector has few residences and is characteristic of the Urbanisme on flagstone, in vogue during the Glorious Thirty. One of the objectives of this use of a flagstone in particular consists in creating a clear separation of motorized flows and their parking compared to the other modes of displacement. This technique is regarded today as the source of many difficulties of operation and perception of the city: creation in basement and terrace of deserted and not very sure zones, disconnection of the city of its relief, its history, field reality, transition often missed with the close districts…

Lights

In addition to this side " seventies" , Share-God offers today a splendid luminous panorama of night. The roof of the tower pencil enlightened of orange sharp, the front of the shopping mall and the signs advertizing on the station offer a modern side to the district. One will also note remarkable lightings of the boulevard fish pond-blackbird (blue neons on the buildings, blue standard lamps) as well as the library enlightened by a beam directed towards the sky.
