Shaped canvas
One indicates by shaped canvas , in English, of the Peinture S realized on nonrectangular, round or triangular fabrics, generally, but being able to have forms much more exotic whose surface even is not plane. They are then at the same time pictorial and sculptural works. One of the contemporary painters most known to use this technique is, undoubtedly, Jasper Johns.
An old example is the Tondo , a painting carried out on a round fabric: Raphael, as of other painters of the Renaissance chose this format to paint virgin .
