Shaman King is a Manga of Hiroyuki Takei, published in French with the editions Kana.
The 32 mangas which account the series on the whole are available in France.
It should be noted that Volume 32 is not any more the last tome cheese of the series, because during its conference which took place with the 8th edition of Japan expo in France, Hiroyuki Takei announced that it will leave the true end Shaman King at the beginning of 2008 in Japan, at the latest fine 2008.
As for the televised series, it made up of 64 episodes, is divided into 2 seasons of 32 episodes each one. The Western version of the series in question was modified by 4kids and comprises censures, changes of dialogs, modification of the original band, final improvements of images… 3 boxes DVD of this version are published by Declic Images in France.

Short summary of the history

Manta is a very ordinary schoolboy. One day, crossing a cemetery to save time, it meets Yoh, a shaman. Yoh can see the Fantôme S, and amalgamate with them to use their competences. Its dream is to become Shaman King , the shaman having the ultimate phantom, Great Spirit, universal knowledge. But the road is sown obstacles, and many others shamans have the same objective… to gain Shaman Fight!

Vocabulary

  • Furyoku : " energy psychique" shaman
  • Great Spirit: " ultime" spirit; who is a universal spirit in which all the heart S of late finish their voyage. One finds this philosophy in certain religions of the Far East, the individual is single but the heart is common, it comes and turns over to the same source.
  • Itako : a subcategory of the shamans. A itako is able to converse with the phantoms present in beyond and to recall them on the Earth. Anna, been engaged of Yoh, is a itako.
  • Drunk Over: metamorphose physical phantom through the furyoku shaman. It is a mass of energy whose expression is directly related to the experiments of life of the phantom and the shaman.
  • Shaman : nobody being able to see the phantoms and to converse with them.
  • Shaman Fight : great tournament of shamans taking place every 500 years, the winner takes down the right to amalgamate with Great Spirit.
  • Shaman King : the shaman which gains Shaman Fight, it receives Great Spirit.
  • Shikigami: demon which obeys the orders of a shaman.

Characters

Yoh and its entourage

Yoh Asakura : Hero of the manga, Yoh is a very gifted shaman which belongs to the prestigious family of shamans Asakura. C´est a 13 year old boy who is characterized by his lazy character and excessively slackened: he prefers a good nap with a drive and does not seem s´inquiéter of large-thing. For this reason, its adversaries regard it as “slackness” and incompetent. It is promised in marriage since its more tender childhood to Anna Kyoyama, which is also its trainer. Its phantom guard is a samurai who lived 600 years ago, Amidamaru . Yoh is a very cordial and trustful being and forgives easily with those which l´ont wounded, sometimes even a little too easily according to his/her friends…

Manta Oyamada : Manta is a young very intelligent boy who is characterized by his very small size; it is often l´objet mockeries on this subject. Well qu´il is not shaman, it is able to see the spirits. He is the first true friend of Yoh and is ready to follow it jusqu´ at the end of the world; d´ailleurs it is always at its sides during Shaman Fight. It transports an encyclopedia permanently and seems to know all about all.

Anna Kyoyama: Anna is promised in marriage of Yoh and its trainer. With the first access, it seems a violent and pitiless beautiful young girl, even terrifying: she leads l´entourage of Yoh to the rod and subjects to him him an infernal drive. Nobody n´ose never to retort to him - except Hao. She does not seem to test feelings for Yoh. But this n´est qu´une frontage: actually, it l´aime deeply and relies on him blindly. These feelings are reciprocal. C´est an extremely powerful Medium which constantly carries on it a chain to communicate with the world of the spirits.

CAT Ren: Ren is a Chinese shaman extremely extremely resulting d´une family formerly very powerful, but aujourd´hui on the decline. It wishes to become Shaman King to return its old glory to him. Its phantom guard is a Chinese warrior, Bason . Violent one, fatalist and scorning, s´attaque Ren with Yoh parce qu´il do not deserve, according to him, to take part in the Shaman Fight so much it is soft. But it s´avère that Ren is at the bottom a fragile boy, terribly only, which underwent all its childhood the domination of his/her father and n´a learned that the destruction. Yoh will include/understand it and succeed in convincing it to become his/her friend.

Bokutou No Ryû: Ryû is a rather poor chief of gang which does not seem s´intéresser in the life qu´à two things: its hair and women. After having met Yoh, it decides to become Shaman with an only aim of d´avoir a very beautiful “phantom guardian”. But the phantom qu´il will obtain will in the final analysis be a large green lizard speaking, Tokagero , former chief of gang like him. Ryû all is devoted to Yoh qu´il calls “Master”; it takes part in the Shaman Fight to find its Best Place .

Horohoro: Of its true name " Usui Horokeu" it is a shaman resulting from the tribe of the Aïnous, in Large the Northern. Noisy and coarse, it has a voracious appetite and spends most clearly its time to dispute with Ren, Ryû and Chocolove. Its phantom guard is Kororo (American Corey in l´ Anime). In spite of its vulgar manners, it has also a large heart and takes part in the Shaman Fight with an aim of saving the Koropockles , of the spirits of nature victims of l´industrialistion of the men - Kororo is d´eux l´une. Horohoro becomes friendly with Yoh after this one l´ait beaten at the time of their first combat: he recognizes his force and hopes to be able to beat it one day.

McDanel Chocolove : Chocolove is a shaman Afro-American. His/her parents were killed when he was child and he became chief of gang during a time. But it was then collected by an old man shaman who wanted to save the world by the laughter and saw in him his heir. Chocolove s´est softened: now, c´est just a boy frimor and funny (or in any case, which s´y endeavors…) It is known for its completely null jokes. It wishes to become superstar of cinema with l´aide of Mick , its phantom guard jaguar.

Faust VIII: C´est the descendant of l´illustre Faust, a German shaman which practiced the black Magie, in particular the Nécromancie. Faust VIII, Doctor, inherited these techniques. C´est a very powerful shaman which takes part in the Shaman Fight with an aim of ressuciter its been engaged, Elisa, killed by an assassin of the years before. Because of died of its love, Faust became a cruel and cynical man who estimates to n´avoir anything more to lose in the life. It is ready with very to bring back Elisa, including killing all those which are put across its road. In contact with Yoh, like much d´autres, it will end however up becoming again l´homme qu´il was; Anna will accept d´utiliser its capacities to bring back l´esprit d´Elisa.

The Pache tribe

  • Silva : organizer of the tournament. Person in charge of Yoh, Ryu and Ren.

  • Karim: organizer of the tournament. Person in charge of Horohoro. He is guard of the fifth door. Its plantation is the high plateaus.
  • Blom: organizer of the tournament. Person in charge of Lyserg. He is guard of the second door. Its plantation is the valley.
  • Magna: organizer of the tournament, it is attached to Hao. He is guard of the third door. Its plantation is the volcano.
  • Nichrom: organizer of the tournament, it is attached to Hao and wants some in Ren which killed his/her Chrom brother.
  • Namari: organizer of the tournament, there is a kind of competition between him and Ryu. He is the guard of the first door. Its plantation is the desert.
  • Radim: organizer of the tournament, it is the organizer of the second part of the tournament. He never releases his microphone, which besides can become a weapon between its hands thanks to its Over Soul. He is the guard of the fourth door. Its plantation is the lake.
  • Renim: organizer of the tournament, it is always accompanied by Blom.
  • Chrom: old a pache which handled the insects. It was killed by Ren at the beginning of the tournament.
  • Tarim: organizer of the tournament, it is the most mysterious pache by far and one is unaware of very his capacities, it is waiter with the coffee pache.
  • Goldova: chief of the tribe of Paches and the organizers of the tournament. It preserves its coldness in any circumstance. Its over drunk is called big chief.
  • Lip and Rap: two twin sisters who often accompany Silva.
  • Rutherfor: the last pache keeping the access to the field of the king. Nothing him is known.

Antagonists

Hao Asakura : Hao is “the large malicious one” of l´histoire. C´est without any doubt the most powerful shaman which ever existed. It was born one millenium ago and succeeded in controlling all the elements of nature, which makes it practically indestructible. It wishes to destroy l humanity which according to him pollutes and destroys the Earth gradually. Killed by Yohen Asakura it s´est réincarné 500 years later; it was still killed, but this time it had time to off steal the Spirit Fire to the Pache Tribe. Then, 500 after - c´est-with-to say aujourd´hui - it s´est réincarné in its own family. Only his/her new “mother” carried a baby not, but of the twins: Hao and Yoh. Yoh is thus the downward one and the twin brother and the only one who can beat it, because at the time of the reincarnation of Hao, the good side which remained in Hao is integrated into the heart of Yoh, which explains the lazy and peaceful side of Yoh and the fact that Hao is permanently bad.

  • Disciples

Radim: Old and founder of X-Laws. It was, before the shaman king, a prétre and an instructor of Marco. Its over drunk is the first of the angels, Lucifel which handles a mass.

Opacho: A little boy which one is unaware of almost all except that it hates to see somebody of smaller than him, than it is in company of Hao and than it can read the future.

Marie, Kana Bismark, and another: They are all three of the witches and mania an ectoplasm, a tueuse headstock and a pumpkin.

Phantoms & Spirits

  • Amidamaru : legendary Samurai died at 24 years there is more than 600 years. He is today the phantom of Yoh. It is called “  The monstre  ” because it killed more than 50 soldiers of the king, the Shogun. Advent to become the guard of Yoh it awaited a friend, Mosuke , on the battle fields of its death, now become cemetery. Its saber names the Harusame . It several was split but always reforged.

  • Bassoon : The phantom of a Chinese former general which lived in IIéme century. It was called the “  Saber Terror “ . It serves family CAT then becomes the phantom of Ren and obeys blindly to him.

  • Tokagerô : The phantom of Ryû. It was killed by Amidamaru , whereas it was 35 years old. At the beginning of the manga, he seeks to be avenged for Amidamaru and takes possession of the body of Ryû to kill Yoh and Amidamaru . To make pressure on Yoh, he kidnaps Manta. He will become the phantom of Ryû thereafter.

  • Matamune : Cat become goryoshin (Killer of demons protecting its Master) following its meeting with Hao (of time when it had not drawn up vast projects of destruction yet). He will become the first phantom of Yoh.

  • Mosuke : The creative blacksmith of the saber of Amidamaru, the Harusame which means " rain of printemps". He was the best friend of Amidamaru, they grew emsemble.

  • Lee Pyron : Kyonshi, left puppet handled by a parchment, Jun CAT. It is a very large Master of martial arts and large a film star. It is one of the preferred heroes of Manta. He was assassinated by family CAT and was offered to Jun in gift of birthday. He invented his own martial art, Daodando, which was inspired to him by the proper martial art of its Master. This character is directly inspired, which jumps to the eyes, of Bruce Lee which created to him also an martial art which gathers all those which exist and are indexed on ground. This martial art is called the Jet Kundo (perhaps not good orthography).

  • Kororo : The phantom of Horohoro. It belongs to the tribe of Koropockles, which lives in fields of Fuki (nénuphares) and is in the process of disappearance. C´est adorable a small creature in love with Manta Oyamada.

  • Elisa : The woman of Faust, it was nurse. In its youth it was reached of a terminal illness but Faust saved it. Unfortunately, she was assassinated by a robber at the time of the burgling of the private clinic which she had created with Faust. She is the phantom of Faust VIII.

  • 5 great minds:

    • Spirit Off Fire : The spirit of Hao Asakura. It will join Lyserg at the end of the manga.
    • Spirit off Thunder : The spirit which is allotted to CAT Ren, but which will not join it at the end of the manga.
    • Spirit off Wind : The spirit which is allotted to McDanel Chocolove but which will not join it at the end of the manga.
    • Spirit off Rain : The spirit which is allotted to Horohoro, but which will not join it at the end of the manga.
    • Spirit off Earth : The spirit which is allotted to Yoh Asakura, at the end of the manga, one sees Sati beginning a combat to recover it, but nothing of his exit is known.

Weapons and objects

  • the bell of oracle : provided by the patchs to all the participants of Shaman Fight, it transmits all the relative informations to the engagements to them and makes it possible moreover to probe the power of the furyoku participants.
  • Harusame : saber which belonged formerly to Amidamaru, Yoh uses it at the time of its engagements between shamans. It on several occasions was broken then repaired. It was forged by Mosuke, the best friend of Amidamaru.Il was named thus because harusame means " rain of primtemps" : Amidamaru cried when it received it.
  • Hôraiken : sword of family CAT transmitted to Ren by his/her father.
  • the 1080 : collar of Anna.
  • Golem : old machine which was repaired by the father of Seyrarm and Ludoseb (famous Reoseb in the French version). They recover it with dead this one. Golem is haunted by the phantom of their late father who uses Seyrarm to use Golem. It was destroyed by Hao Asakura.
Ludoseb and seyram after having recovered the golem decide to take part in Shaman Fight in order to avenge the murder for their father. They make party of a team: Seyrarm, Ludoseb and Mikihasa Asakura called Miki.
  • Board of surfing : board of Horohoro which allows him of surfer on snow. its phantom is Kororo, a koropockle. The koropockle are used much by its family and these creatures live under the sheets of fuki, a plant sees disappearance of it.
