The Shabak (in Hebrew, שב " כ ) is a Acronyme of " Shérūt ha-Bītāhōn ha-Klālī" שירותביטחוןכללי) also known under the name of Shin Bet (which was the name under which Shabak was known in Israel at its beginnings) or GSS ( General Security Service , General Security service), of against-espionage is the Israeli agency. Shabak is the security service interior of the country which prevents against all terrorist attacks of the territories Palestinian or different such as those of Al-Qaida.

It deals moreover with the protection of the members of the Israeli government. It is the Israeli equivalent of DST Frenchwoman (Direction of the monitoring of the territory).

Its currency is " מגןולאיראה " (The shield) " The Defender who should not be vu". The service is composed of almost 5000 employees.

History

Isser Harel was the chief of Shabak (as well as Mossad) in the years 1950. Amos Manor succeeded to him of 1953 with 1963.

Structure

Shabak is composed of 3 operational divisions:
  1. the Division of the Arab Businesses: This division deals of the operations anti-terrorists and the update of a data bank on Arab terrorists. Shabak also comprises 5 sections of reserve.

Any individual of foreign nationality is potentially subjected to a monitoring of Shabak, which has a broad network of agents and advisers.

Tortures

In the Daily Israeli Yediot Aharonot of March 23rd, 2007, during an interview, the lawyer Arieh Hadar, former chief of interrogative of Shabak, recognizes, inter alia, that the agency had recourse to the torture of Arab prisoners . The majority of the violations proceeded during the first years of the State whereas David Ben Gourion was Prime Minister Israélien.
