Seynod

Seynod is a common French, located in the department of the Haute-Savoie and the area the Rhone-Alps.
La common of seynod absorbs that of Vieugy in 1965 and that of balmont in 1972.

The inhabitants of Seynod are called the Seynodiens .

Geography

  • common Situation géographique
    La of Seynod is located in the south-western suburbs of Annecy. Its point low being located at 450m, in the district of the Red Cross, the commune culminates with 1020m in the Semnoz.
    Son Territoire is spread out along the RD5, of RN 201 and of the highway A41 and its only natural limits are the buttresses of the solid mass of the Semnoz located at south-east.

  • Géologie
    Seynod belongs to the framework geological of the Lac of Annecy and belonged to the Savoyard Avant-pays with the foot of the Préalpes.
    Les main features is the following ones:
in the east, the mountain of the Semnoz, Anticline directed northern south, which constitutes the northern end of the Massif Wallows. Its structure is primarily formed of Calcaire hard belonging to the Urgonien.
  • in the North-East the plain of Annecy, with the outlet of the Cluse of the same name, consisted of alluvia fluvioglaciaires.
  • immediately in the south of the plain of Annecy, a thin band of Molasse S gray (Aquitanian), in the east of Loverchy.
  • covering the major part of the commune, a plate of Moraine S going up regularly towards south-west is furrowed small valleys, with the very soft relief.
  • in Western edge, of the plates longilignes of Molasse S green (Burdigalien), plumb with Chavanod, New Year's Eve and Montagny.

      Le hydrological system of Seynod includes/understands:
    a Brook known as of the Three Fountains, sliding ring of the south towards north, with the foot of the solid mass of the Semnoz

    History

    • Origine
      Seynod would come from Latin Sagenodum (or Sugenadum ) of which Sagina meaning grease and the suffix " atum" a place or one fattens the pigs and the volailles.
      Seynod in patois says Sinnu or Sênu ( Sinne which can announce an oak grove).
      Selon Mr Ducis, Seynod could come from the two Latin words Sinus (Gulf or bay), and Dunum (castle of the gulf).
    • Néolithique
      Une axe out of found green stone with Seynod, in 1897, by Charles Marteaux, in a field with the borders of the farmhouse of Brezi (Bressis) and Brunaz (Brône), dated from the Neolithic final (3000-2000 av. J.C.) and preserved at the museum-castle of Annecy, testifies to this period.

      A Balmont, one announced the existence of an enclosure made up of a " dolline" (small flat-bottomed circular basin) ovalaire of 60m X 100m in the wood of Varvets (or Vervets), overhanging the brook of Esparris.       De many Gallo-Roman sites recall us that the activity of Saginatum was intense. Several burials, as well as objects of ceramics, were discovered with the hamlet of Branchy.
      Seynod is located on the layout of the Roman way, built at the 3rd century, connecting the vicus Boutae (Annecy) to Lemencum (Chambéry) while passing by Aquae (Aix-the-Baths). It crossed the villas of Saginatum (Seynod), Coesiacus (Cesy), Bissunacus (Bessonnex), Veratiacus (Vraisy).
      A Seynod, on the buttresses of the church, a Roman inscription was the subject of one inscription to the additional inventory of the historic buildings in 1995.

    In 1561, the census, fact at the request of the duke Emmanuel-Philibert, give for the parish of Seynod, 407 inhabitants divided into 82 fires. Only eight families are easy. The remainder of the population is composed sharecroppers and small farmers. In 1755, an investigation of the intendant of the Genevese, counts 216 Seynodiens. In 1776, they are 229. In 1832, the population of Seynod, includes/understands 556 inhabitants divided into 19 hamlets. Among those, 9 only have more than 20 inhabitants and 4 more than 60 inhabitants. This population is primarily agricultural.

    The territorial and demographic expansion of Seynod was supported by the fusion of Vieugy in 1965 and fusion association with Balmont in 1973. This fusion association was transformed into full fusion on July 1st, 1999.

    Administration

    The town of Seynod is the chief town of the Canton of Seynod, depend on the Arrondissement of Annecy and which gathers twelve communes.

    Seynod is member of the Communauté of the agglomeration of Annecy (C2A).

    Twinnings

    The town of Seynod is twinned with the city of, and this in a formal way since September 26th, 1999. A sponsorship existed since 1989.

    Since 2002, the municipality wished to be twinned at the city of. This wish became reality into 2005/2006 with the signature of a charter of twinning to MALGRAT OF MAR in May 2005, a ceremony similar having been organized in June 2006 to SEYNOD.

    Economy

    In the marshy zones, one collected " formerly; blache" for the litter of the cattle and " foins" of the second quality for the goats and the génisses.
    The investigation of 1755, counts 53 families of farmers cultivating the Froment, in particular. Several mills, built on the brook of the Three Fountains (mill of the Hell, Strong mill, mill the Last), work the grain. In 1889, one builds the Fruitière one year after that of Vieugy and twenty-five years after that of Lime. In 1901, craftsmen and tradesmen settle in the commune. In 1936 one then counts 9 tradesmen, 22 craftsmen and a large factory (Métrix). In 1932, one builds the new building of fruit-bearing of Vieugy, showing the importance of the dairy breeding on the sides of Semnoz. Until the middle of the XXe century, Seynod does not undergo deep change. In the Sixties, owner of part of the industrial park of Vovray, the commune establishes companies to with it, allowing to be only one simple dormitory town. Fusion with Vieugy makes it possible to find a balance between the city and the countryside. One then finds 80 farms, on 800 hectares. In 1966, S.N.R. builds a unit on the commune and four years later, the municipality opens a new industrial park along the RN 201. From 1975, new zones of activities appear: Césardes, Valley-green-Holy-Catherine. The number of farm fall; 73 in 1979,51 in 1988, and less than 45 in 1995. Parallel to industry and at the services, Seynod sets up an infrastructure of reception, with 5 hotels is 175 rooms.

    Town planning

    The city is equipped with an auditorium and a nautical complex be-winter. There is also a skate-park, of a very advanced design, carried out within the framework of a reflection of the Municipal council Young people. Since December 1st, 2006, within the framework of the refitting of the center town, the public library of SEYNOD, second of the agglomeration annecian became the Media library following an important programme of restoration and extension of the open administrative complex in 1983, sheltering the Town hall, the Auditorium and this new media library.

    Culture and inheritance

    Each first Sunday of September, association the Friends of the Old man Seynod organizes the festival of the Seynod Old man the purpose of who is to recall the rural and artisanal traditions to the inhabitants.

    Club TELI also organizes large a Forum of the Travellers the every years at the end of November on Seynod, which joins together several thousands of travellers come from whole Europe.

    • heraldic

    The blazon symbolizes the history and the current life of our commune. The first district indicates the membership to the Duché of Savoy. The second district, represented by an ear of corn and a fir tree, symbolizes the agricultural activity and recalls the importance of the forest on the commune of Syenod.
    Le third district symbolizes the industrial activity by the toothed wheel, and the marketing activity by the Mercury head, God Commercial. Lastly, the fourth district represents the armorial bearings of the Pelard family whose chiefs were lords of Seynod at the 14th century, 15th century and 16th century centuries; this blazon " carry azur" , has two rafters interlaced in saltire, that of the reversed Chief of gold, the other of confined money of 4 " étoiles".

    Places and monuments

    • With the hamlet of Vergloz, the castle of Châteauvieux is rather well preserved with a round tower and a beautiful surmounted carriage door of an escutcheon of 1593 with the weapons of Pelard.
      Le castle is established on a natural hillock which culminates with six hundred meters of altitude. With raising, it supervised the road from Chambéry to Annecy by Vieugy and Loverchy; with setting, it controlled the junction which left this road with Vieugy to move towards Seynod and which passed right in front of its entrée.

    • House of noble of Orlier of Viuz-la-Chiesaz, located at Sacconges, where one already finds it in 1642.

    • Castle of Méclaz , it was located on the high plate above the houses of Méclaz, with the limit of the parish of Quintal. It had its pond, which one still sees the dams while going in Pennossey. The ruins are with sorrows visibles.
      Il belonged to the seigniory of Quintal. It was sold in 1824, with a realtor who divided the grounds of them.

    • Vault of Vieugy (old Saint Martin's day church), remains chorus fine 16th century or beginning 17th siècle.

    • Vault of Loverchy (old Saint-Etienne church), modest vault, it is located at the variation of the CD5, being used as barn, it was the subject of a rénovation.
