The Seychelles are a Archipel of 115 island S, located in the Indian Ocean and attached to the African continent . All these islands are gathered in a State whose principal island is Mahé.

History

The first to visit the archipelago were probably Arab merchants, but the first account returned written were carried out by explorers Portuguese in 1505, who described the Arab sailors. Between Africa and Asia, the islands were used by pirates before the arrival of the French which occupied them in 1756. The colonizers named the islands " Seychelles" to make honor with Jean Moreau de Séchelles, then General inspector of finances of Louis XV. The islands juridically passed under the control of the British Couronne in 1814 after the Napoleonean wars.

From 1916, the army of Seychelles engages at the sides of the British in Africa: sending of a task force of 796 men, of which 358 will never re-examine their countries (military cemetery of Victoria).

Since 1976, they form an independent State, member of the the Commonwealth and Francophonie.

In 1977, a lawyer, France-Albert Rene, then Prime Minister, seized the power. Become president, it founded a sole party. Since then, Seychelles were defined as revolutionists and third-mondistes. Always places from there in 1999, president Rene, under the pressures, agreed to engage its country on the way of the multi-party system and liberalization. Its successor, James Alix Michel, was re-elected on July 31st, 2006.

The islands which form the heart of the archipelago (Mahé, Praslin, the Dam) are of the microphone-continent type, indeed neither coral nor volcanic, base is of the granitic type. One can see of them splendid outcrops with the famous beach Anse Source of money in the island of the Dam. Other islands (Aldabra, largest of the islands of the archipelago) are of coral type.
