Sextus Empiricus is a Philosophe, astronomer and Médecin empirical skeptic which probably lived in IIIe century a. J. - C. It was Greek, but we know neither perhaps where it was born (with Mytilène) nor where he was professor. We know on the other hand that he was chief of the school skeptic; he succeeded Ménodote de Nicomédie and its successor was Saturninus.
Sextus wrote works of medicine. There remain to us three works of philosophy:
- Πυῤῥώνειοι ὑποτύπωσεις ( Esquisses pyrrhoniennes ) which is a summary of the thought skeptic;
- two other works joined together under the same title: Against the mathematicians :
- one against sciences
- the other against the dogmatic philosophers
