Sextet
In Music, a sextet indicates, either a type of formation, or a Musical genre.
Musical formation
A sextet - or sextet , in Jazz - is first of all a musical Ensemble composed of six Musicien S Soliste S, or of six groups of musicians - i.e., six Pupitre S.
Musical genre
A sextet is also a Musical genre dedicated to this type of formation. It indicates a piece of music with six then left simultaneous, intended to be interpreted by six Soliste S, with or without accompaniment.
- For example: the final sextet of IIe act of the Don Giovanni of Mozart requires two low, a Ténor and three Soprano S - more the Orchestre, naturally.
-
In the Classical music, and more precisely, the Chamber music, the word indicates a Sonate for six instruments soloists. It can be written for the duplicated parts of a Trio with cords - two Violon S, two violas and two Violoncelle S - or for any other combination.
