Seversk
Seversk ( Russian Се́верск in ) is a town of Russia, located in Siberia, in the Oblast de Tomsk. It is to 12 km in the North-West of Tomsk, on Right Bank of the river Tom. With the Soviet era, Seversk was a closed Ville, site of a vast complex of production and treatment of nuclear matters of military use; it was not reproduced on the charts. Its population rises with: 114100 inhabitants in 2005.
History
Founded in 1949, the city was called initially Piaty Potchtovy ( Russian Пя́тыйПочто́вый in ), then Tomsk-7 ( Томск-7 in Russian), of 1954 with 1992.Seversk is the site of the Siberian Groupe of the companies of chemistry created in 1954. It includes/understands several nuclear reactors and of the installations of isotopic separation, enrichment and reprocessing of the Uranium and the Plutonium. The nuclear weapons were produced and stored on the spot.
The city was a secret city of the Soviet Union until the president Boris Ieltsine issues in 1992 that the secret cities could use their names. Previously, the city was mentioned on no chart.
Today, in spite of the decree which raised the statute of the secrecy for Tomsk, the city remains closed for the non-residents and requires a special permit.
Nuclear accident
One of the most serious nuclear accidents occurred the April 6th 1993, when a tank containing a highly radioactive fluid exploded.
