Seven words of Jesus in cross

The Seven words of Jesus in cross are a series of short sentences called by Jesus whereas it was crucifié, right before his death. They are drawn from the 4 Gospels and considered together led to the development of a spirituality of the cross which was expressed in many spiritual comments. Their exact chronology cannot be established. (the texts are drawn from the oecumenical Traduction of the Bible)

  1. Father, forgives them because it do not know what they do (Luc 23: 34) immediately marked after its crucifixion between two criminals. Jesus is sorry this for those which took part in its judgment and execution.

In addition to the spiritual authors the words of Jesus in cross inspired the musicians. The Oratorio " Seven Last words of Christ in cross " of Joseph Haydn in is an good example.
