Seven crowned rivers of India
Water in general and the rivers in particular play a great part in the Hindouisme, the banks of the latter are often arranged of Ghât S making it possible to make Ablution S and the immersion in their water washes the sins of the excessively pious people. This importance of water can have a bottom animist which was integrated in the hindouism.
Among all the rivers of the India, one counts seven of them which are regarded as crowned and are the subject of pilgrimages at certain arranged places of their course and to their source. These seven crowned rivers of India are the Gange, the Yamunâ, the Sarasvati, the Indus, the Godâvarî, the Narmadâ and the Kâverî.
Nepal, the river Bagmati plays the same part for the Hindu population. The site of Pashupatinath , not far from Kathmandou, knows on its banks a regular gathering of Sâdhu , the Shiva Ratri , coming from Nepal and whole India.
