Seven Seas Lagoon

The Seven Seas Lagoon is an artificial lake carried out by the Walt Disney Company in front of the Magic Kingdom of Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

The lake is actually a lagoon, in spite of its surface of more than 70 ha, connected to the Bay Lake by a narrow channel made up of a river bridge above a road girdling the lagoon.

History

The lagoon was dug with the site of marsh as of 1966, in preparation for the opening of the Magic Kingdom in October 1971. The ground thus recovered helped to consolidate the foundation of the park. Under several meters of peat a layer of sand pure was discovered during work and extracted. It was used to build artificial beaches for the hotels laid out around the lagoon.

In 1971, apart from the park with topic, a center of transport was built it is the Transportation and Ticket Center. It makes it possible to connect the carpark, located at the south of the lake, with the park, located at north. Ferries start from a pontoon towards the park, others were added later to join the camp-site of Disney' S Fort Wilderness Resort and the Disney' S Wilderness Lodge Resort located on banks of Bay Lake. Monorails connect also the park Magic Kingdom (on two ways) and the park EPCOT since 1982. Buses serve from this coach station the whole of the complex of Walt Disney World Resort.

In 1971 two hotels were built on the circumference of the lake. The first Disney' S Polynesian Resort is next to the center of transport and evokes the Pacific Islands. The second Disney' S Contemporary Resort is built on a peninsula between the lagoon and Bay Lake. He evokes the future in a style international zest is next to the park of the Magic Kingdom.

In 1988 a new hotel the Disney' S Grand Floridian Resort was built on a peninsula in the west of the lagoon. In the beginning this site was to accommodate a hotel on the topic of the pagodas asiatiques.
The three hotels are connected by the monorails. The Disney' S Contemporary Arises whose form in “has” opens an immense hall in its heart is even crossed by the two ways.

Use

Apart from its activity of transport with the ferry connecting various points located along its banks of Bay Lake, Seven Seas Lagoon is used as a basis for several activities.

Activities around and on the lagoon

Five sand beaches end make it possible to have fun or bronze. With the breaking news it is always interdict to bathe in the water of the lagoon. It is however to note that the bathe in water océane is not an American practice (because of the teeth of the sea?). The Disney' S Polynesian Resort thus proposes two beaches and a third which it divides with the Disney' S Grand Floridian Resort. There exist two other beaches with dimensions Magic Kingdom.

The two hotels have a marina in which the hiring of boats is possible.

The Disney' S Grand Floridian Resort proposes an excursion in the search of " trésor" for the children from 4 to 10 years baptized Disney' S Pirates Adventure .

The lake accommodates the come evening a nautical parade, the Electrical Water Pageant.

Activiéts various

Televised series used the decorations of Walt Disney World Resort, mainly the Disney' S Grand Floridian Beach Resort and islands of Seven Seas Lagoon. It is entitled Thunder ( Thunder in Paradise in English or the Caribbean offshore oil rig in Quebec). The principal hero was Terry " Hulk" Hogan accompanied by Chris Lemmon, Carol Alt and of Patrick Macnee (more famous for Bowler hat and leather boots ).

In 2005 a test of the American national competition of fishing was held in this lagoon. An easy way was provided during the competition because no fish had still been fished, an abrupt artificial unevenness makes pass the depth when it reaches 1,50 m with 4,5 Mr.
