Seven

the Seven was a diffused cultural Television channel French public May 14th 1989 with the May 30th 1992.

History of the chain

In 1985, Georges Fillioud, French Minister of Transport charges Pierre Desgraupes with imagining intended programs to feed one or more from the five channels of the project of high power satellite TDF 1 launched in 1979. February 27th 1986, the company of edition of television programs is created by Bernard Faivre d'Arcier, cultural adviser of the Prime Minister Laurent Fabius and starts to constitute a stock of programs. It is chaired by the historian Georges Duby.

In March 1989, the Seven, become the European Company of television programs, receives SCUMS the authorization to emit on a channel of the satellite TDF 1 in April 1989 and starts to diffuse its programs on May 14th 1989. Those are composed of 3:30 of emissions per day repeated twice. The next month, following an agreement, the programs of the Seven are taken again on the cable networks, then as of on February 3rd 1990, FR3 enables him to have a window on the terrestrial network by relaying its signal each Saturday of 15:00 at midnight until April 1992. The “seventh chain”, whose name is not that the amalgam of initial of its company name, has just made its appearance.

The May 30th 1992, the Seven loses its role of diffuser to the profit of ARTE, European cultural chain created on October 2nd 1990 by the signature of a treaty free - German, but remains like company of edition of program and becomes the French pole of ARTE GEIE. It takes on September 27th 1993 then the name of Sept-ARTE then becomes ARTE France on August 1st 2000.
