Sevdalinka
The sevdalinka and a typical kind of music traditional of the Bosnia. Very often this name is shortened in sevdah .
Origin
The sevdalinka is the traditional music of the Bosnians, but this form is popular in several areas of old the Yugoslavia, in particular in Serbia, Croatia, with the Montenegro and in Macedonia. The origin of the kind goes up at the time where the Ottoman Empire reigned on the Balkans, but one is unaware of the name of the majority of the type-setters. The word sevdah comes from the Turkish language in which it means state of Extase in love; this word comes, actually, of the Arab expression " säwdâ" , which means the " black Bile. Indeed, the former Greek doctors and Arabic thought that gall was one of the four basic substances of the human body, which affected the emotional life and caused a mood irritable melancholic person and . Since the love causes same mood, the same word is used in Turkish to describe these two states.
Characteristics
In its musical form, the sevdalinka is characterized by a Tempo soft or moderated and a rich person harmonizes, who leave an impression of melancholy to the listener. The songs sevdalinke very elaborate, in charge of emotion and are traditionally entonnés with passion and enthusiasm. The singer often imposes the rate/rhythm and the tempo of the song, which can vary with the wire of the performance. Although traditional interpretation supposes a male soloist, it is not rare that singers lend themselves to it. Usually, the singer is accompanied by a small orchestra which includes/understands Accordéon, Violon, Guitare (or another string instrument), sometimes by the Flûte S or Clarinette S, low and drums. Formerly mingled with it with other kinds of traditional instruments like the saz (Turkish lute). One can often hear accordion or violin solo between the verses. The words are register of the ballade, generally embroidering on the topics of the love and the unhappy love affair - the origin of the name even would be a Turkish word, sevda , meaning sick passion or of love .
In the years '90, the collective of musicians Mostar Sevdah Reunion included the Bosnian sevdalinke most popular.
