Geography
unimportant Brook after its source, Seudre ends in splendid a Estuaire.
It is born in south-west from Virollet and disappears entirely in summer on a space from 2 to 3 km. Until Saujon, it is only one thin filament of water. With the port of Ribérou, in Saujon, the bridge with lock S (the “bridge of contrary water”) mark the separation of water: soft upstream, Brackish in the port and the channel towards Éguille and the estuary. Thus, the influence of the Marée S is exerted to the port of Ribérou.
Seudre joined the Pertuis of Maumusson, in the north of the Presqu'île of Arvert, between the towns of Marennes to the east and Tremblade in the west.
The estuary of Seudre is bordered of Marais and old saline Marais, where the are installed clear S which allow the refining of the Huître S (in Ostréiculture).
The estuary of Seudre is, with the island of Oléron, the place of the name of the oysters Marenne oyster-Oléron.
