A set of letters is a Board game or a Casse-tête in which the players must compose or discover words using letters. The support of play is generally made up of printed tokens or charts to be played special.

The main difficulty associated with this type of play is the reference index. The players must get along on the choice of a Dictionnaire, accept or not the combined abbreviations, forms, the compound words, the foreign words and the proper names…

The French-speaking scrabbleurs overcame the difficulty since 1990 while making publish by Larousse a Officiel of the play Scrabble composed according to their wishes and regularly brought up to date.

Some sets of letters

  • Boggle : the players must compose of the words starting from a random pulling of Des.

  • Composio: to each turn, a player must add a letter or show the preceding player to be able to make a word with the already added letters.
  • Diamino : one of the oldest sets of letters, ancestor of Scrabble
  • Jarnac: two players are opposed by forming anagrams; it is possible of " voler" a word forgotten by the adversary.
  • Lexicon : going back to 1933, constituted of lettercards with many rules.
  • the longest word: made famous for the television game Of the figures and the letters
  • Motus: a television game derived from the Mastermind and adapted concerned of company.
  • Rummikub Letters: adaptation of Rami with letters
  • Scrabble: set of letters more practiced in many countries.
  • Scriptorium: the set of letters which gives direction to the words.
  • TopWord : similar to Scrabble, but with the possibility of piling up the letters vertically.
  • Zakhia.: word game cross and of knowledge authorizing the proper names
