Setúbal
Setúbal is a port city of the Portugal, located in the district of Setúbal less than 50 km at the south of Lisbon, on the estuary of Sado.
General information
Setúbal counts 118.696 inhabitants for a surface of 172 square kilometers. Composed of 8 parishes, the city shelters moreover a superb Gothic church and manuéline of the end of the 15th century.
The municipal festival takes place on September 15th. At the beginning of the 20th century, Setúbal was an important center of fishing in Portugal, in particular for the Sardine S. None many companies then is not yet in activity today. However tourism could soon redynamiser the local economy because the coast of the natural park of Arrábida offers splendid beaches. A colony of Dauphin S lives in the river Sado, whereas on bank opposed to Setúbal the peninsula of Tróia is. Some luxury hotels were set up there then abandoned because of the unstable nature of the ground. Setúbal is the birthplace of the satirical poet Portuguese Manuel Maria Barbosa de Boccage, of the traditional singer Luisa Todi, as well as famous trainer of the Chelsea FC Jose Mourinho.
The city shelters also an automobile factory, which is the first local employer, Autoeuropa, initially a " joint-venture" between VW and Ford intended to produce 3 models, and afterwards, starting from January 1st, 1999 Volkswagen passes to hold 100% of the capital and the factory passes to name Volkswagen Autoeuropa, which continued all the same, to produce the models of Ford and Seat.
