Sestri Ponente
Sestri Ponente is one of the most important districts of Genoa. It is located in the western zone of the city, between Cornigliano and Pegli.
The district shelters a small tourist port, a Hôpital, two cinemas and of theater, a cemetery and the airport " Cristophe Colomb".
Of strong population (approximately 50.000 inhabitants resident, in the Années 1970 there were 80.000 of them) and of notable factory construction, it is located partly in plain and partly in hills, the variation of altitude being sea level up to 450 m with the Sanctuaire of Notre Dame of Gazzo (or Sanctuary of Notre Dame of the Mercy of the Mont Gazzo).
On the heights behind Sestri, one defines geological division between the Alps and the Apennines (geographical division is more in the west, with the Col of Cadibona).
The transformation of this small agricultural center , tourist sailor and in industrial city corresponds to the development of the shipyards and the Sidérurgie between the end of the 19th century and the First World War.
