Sesmaria
A sesmaria was a ground concession, granted to the Brésil by the government Portuguese, with for objective developing the Agriculture, the breeding and, later, also the culture of the Café and the Cacao. At the same time, it was about a means of settlement of the territory and to reward the noble ones, navigators or soldiers for services rendered to the crown. The system of the sesmarias in Brazil was a prolongation of the Portuguese legal system.
The sesmaria represented a manner of exploitation fast of the grounds of the colonies. It influenced strongly the social organization and the organization of work in Brazil, based on the model of the Latifundio, combining Monoculture and the Esclavagisme.
