Serpoukhov

Serpoukhov (Russian: Серпухов ) is a town of Russia of 126.700 inhabitants (2005) located at the confluence of the river Nara and Oka to 99 km in the south of Moscow. Serpoukhov belongs to the Oblast (area) of Moscow.

The city exists since the 14th century. As from the 16th century it belongs to the line of defense of the Moscovie against the incursions of the Tatar S. (construction of the stone Kremlin in 1556). Thereafter the city benefits from the expansion of the Russian Empire and becomes a shopping mall and important monk. Textile industries develop at the 19th century. During the Soviet era, industry develops: construction of pieces of furniture, manufacture of clothing and machines.

The kremin comprises several important religious monuments of which the cathedral of the Trinity built in 1696 in the Muscovite style baroque.

The city is located along the road m2 which goes from Moscow to Charkiv like on superperipheric road 108 of Moscow.
