Serpis
The Serpis , also called Río Seprpis in Castilian and Riu de Alcoi into Valencian, is a river of the provinces Alicante and Valence, in the south-east of the Spain.
It is born with the feet from the Carrasqueta, of the union of the ravines of Polop and ravine of Troncal. In this part, the river exists only at the time of the rains. Around Alcoy, it is linked, by its left bank, with the río Barchell , which pours him all the year since it recovers part of the aquifer of the Sierra of Mariola. Serpis then crosses Alcoy, Cocentaina, the Alquería of Aznar, Muro de Alcoy, Beniarrés, Lorcha and emerges with Gandie, shortly after the meeting with its principal affluent, the río Vernisa .
Its river mode is Mediterranean, with a maximum flow in January and a minimal flow in August. It can have strong Crue S in autumn, had with the torrential rains. The rising of October 1st 1986 increased its flow to 770 m ³ /sec. in Beniarrés (Alicante). The November 3rd 1987 it overflowed with Gandie following rains of 720 mm of 24 hours. The reserve of Beniarrés, as 27hm ³ is used to control its flow and allows the irragation of the cultures of the Safor.
