Serono

Serono was a company of Biotechnologie, founded in 1906 which was based with Geneva in Suisse where it had installed its world seat in 1977. It developed medicinal products and was the world leader in the field of the treatments against the Infertilité with 60% of market share. It was placed thus at the 4th world rank of the specialized companies in Biotechnologie.

It was directed since 1996 by the billionaire Ernesto Bertarelli and was quoted on the stock exchange with SMI.

In 2006, German Merck KGaA repurchased the company for 10,6 billion euros and integrated it in its group under the entity Merck Serono.

Operational center

  • Geneva, in Sécheron, 1200 employees when it is operational. The inauguration and the removal of the personnel in the new buildings are planned for the autumn 2006.
