Sermizelles

Sermizelles is a common French, located in the department of the Yonne and the area Burgundy. Sarmisolae then sermiseles would come from the name of the people of the Sarmate S installed towards 275 after J.C by the Romans to defend the Agrippa way starting from the military camp of Cora or Chora with St distant Moré of a few kilometers. Uzell would be the Celtic translation of mountain the name which would have carried since always the hill of the virgin who overhangs the village. The name of the village is not without pointing out the name of the capital sarmate named Sarmizegetusa founded into 100 after J.C in Dacie or current Romania

Geography

Sermizelles is a village of the Morvan on the Trunk road 6 in the South-east of Paris. Its name is resulting from Sarmate S, of the riding which were covered with coats of mail of the head to the feet just as their horses.

The village was strengthened. There remain traces of ditches and a turn.

Outdistance Paris 212 km, of Auxerre 40 km, Avallon 11 km in north on N6 and of Vézelay 11km.

Access by the French Highway A6 or by the Station the SNCF of Sermizelles-Vézelay.

History

The place known as " dimensioned of Varenne" seem to be inhabited at the time of bronze towards -1200 front J.C as attests it 2 masks of founders exposed to the museum of Avallon about 1985.

448 Passage du convoy transporting the body of German St of Auxerre coming from Ravenne to Italy.

875 Charles the Bald person makes gift of Sermizelles to the Abbaye Saint Martin's day of Autun.

1164 in April, the pope Alexandre III confirms in a bubble the membership of Sermizelles to the abbey of Autun.

12th century construction of the church and the bell-tower.

the 1347 Abbot Geoffroy de Girolles founds a " luminary of cire" in Sermiseles i.e. it makes a donation to maintain the cure and the probable services a luminier or intendant.

1793 the 29 Brumaire of year II, is on December 19th the prefect of Yonne names Louis Gourlet as a first mayor of Sermizelles.

1927 Electrification of the village

1964 Construction of the pumping station and the distribution network followed by the whole to the sewer and the purification plant.
