Sergueï Vadimovitch Stepachine (Серге́йВади́мовичСтепа́шин) (born the March 2nd 1952, with Port Arthur in China) is a Russian politician. He was named Minister for the federal safety by Boris Eltsine in 1994, and served this station until in 1995. He became later Ministre for justice, of 1997 at March 1998, and Minister of Interior Department, March 1998 to May 1999, when he was indicated Prime Minister by the Parliament. Yeltsin specified that it named Stepashin as a Prime Minister only during one certain time, and it was replaced in 1999 by the future president Vladimir Poutine.
After its resignation of the position of Prime Minister, Stepashin joined the party of the Iabloko at the time of the elections Douma in 2001, the Lower House of the Parliament. Later he resigned of his station at the Parliament and became chief of the Court of Auditors of Russia. He is always at this station today.
Boris Eltsine indicated in 2005 qu ' it indicated Stepashin as successor for the presidency but criticized its lack of enthusiasm during the Guerre as Chetchnia.
