Sergio Ramírez (Masatepe, August 5th, 1942) is a writer, lawyer, journalist and Politician Nicaragua yen.

Biography

He is the second wire of Pedro Ramirez Gutiérrez and Luisa Mercado Gutiérrez.

Still student, it founds the review Ventana in 1960 with Fernando Gordillo. He publishes its first book, Cuentos , in 1963, and becomes one of the figures of the Nicaraguan literary new generation. He obtains his diploma with the Université of Leon in 1964, before continuing his study with Berlin of 1973 to 1975, thanks to a purse granted by the German Office of university exchanges. He is elected general secretary of the Confederation of the universities of Central America in 1968 and 1976.

In 1977, it takes part in the creation of the group of artists and Nicaraguan intellectuals, the Twelve , which is opposed to the government Anastasio Somoza. Then, it forms part in 1979 of the Parliament of Government which seized the power with the fall of the dictator. It is named vice-president of the government (1984) by the Front Sandinista of national release, and chairs the National council of Education. It founded the Editorial Nueva Nicaragua in 1981.

With the presidential elections of February 1990, it supports the new elected president, Violeta Barrios de Chamorro, and receives, the same year, the Order Carlos Fonseca, which is the most important decoration of FSLN. From 1990 to 1995, it chairs the bench Sandinista the National Assembly of the Nicaragua, and is elected member of the national management of this party in 1991. In 1994, it breaks with Ortega, and founds in May 1995 the Movement of the restoration Sandinista (MRS), of tendency center-left.

Journalist, he is chronicler in several Spanish-speaking newspapers, of which the daily newspapers El País (Spain), El Tiempo (Colombia), Jornada (Mexico), El Nacional (Venezuela), Prensa (Nicaragua) and Opinión (California).

He was also professor with the Université of Maryland between 1999 and 2000, and with the free Université of Berlin. He is member of the Nicaraguan Academy of the Language, associated member of the Spanish royal Académie, and was sworn cinematographic festivals of Carthagène (1993) and Huelva (2002).
