Serge Wets

Serge Mouille is an artist - goldsmith, born the December 24th 1922 with Paris, deceased in 1988.

Originating in popular quarters of Paris, Serge Wets between at thirteen years with the École of the Applied arts. He specializes in the work of metal and obtains a diploma of Orfèvrerie. After having worked a few years in the workshop of Gabriel Lacroix, it settles on its account in 1945, with the intention to create Orfèvrerie of table.

As of 1953, Serge Mouille begins his research on the metal shapes and the artisanal manufacture of luminaries, while ensuring the direction of the workshop of Orfèvrerie of the École of the Applied arts, of which it is graduate. In 1955, it is elected with the Société of the Artists Decorators (S.A.D.).

The following year, Steph Simon opens a gallery of Design with 145 Bd St Germain. Under the influence of Charlotte Perriand and Jean Proven, the gallery accommodates work of Serge Mouille, like those of Isamu Noguchi and Jean Luce. Thus a discrete diffusion of its luminaries starts, whereas special orders placed to him: refectories and green areas of the University residence of Antony, universities of Strasbourg and Aix-Marseilles, Flight test center of Brétigny.

Reached tuberculosis for a long time, Serge Mouille is forced to suspend his activities of designer in 1959 and to follow a cure in mountain.

In 1961, thanks to the Company of Creation of the Models (S.C.M.), it can expose, with the Living room of domestic arts, a new collection of luminaries combining Fluorescence and Incandescence. Its production stops definitively in 1964.

Serge Wets remainder especially famous for his luminaries with the stripped forms, with the metal uniformly painted in black. Its mural reflectors, articulated on swivelling arms of various ranges, illustrate the space of a discrete but highly functional presence.
