Serge Theophilus Balima is a Burkinabe academic , born the 1949 with Sore-Dioulasso (ex- the Upper Volta and today Burkina Faso), member of the pulpit of UNESCO.

Biography

Serge Theophilus Balima is resulting from a family originating in center-is Burkina Faso. He is the son of L. Pierre Balima and Rufine Yara and is married in Eglantine Scholastique Locodien de Yagouhi. He is father of four children: Dimitri Governed, Dietrich Lysandre, Thierry Vladimir and Valériane Nadege.

He is titular of a baccalaureat philosophy-letters. In 1970 it joined the France to study there the Journalisme in Strasbourg. Four years later, it leaves Alsace to join Bordeaux to continue its studies where it will have as professor No5el Mamère and in particular the professor emeritus Jean-Andre Tudesq who will be his reader. In Bordeaux, it will obtain its doctorates of which one of State, in communication and information sciences. At the conclusion of its thesis, it turns over at his place to Burkina Faso (old the Upper Volta) to work on television national. It will occupy later the function of director of national television before being affected with the presidency of Faso (Republic) where it will work at the sides of the president Thomas Sankara.

In 1987, with the favor of the putsch which took along to the capacity the current president Blaise Compaoré, it will be named Minister for information and the culture. Two years after this function, it will be sent to Paris as ambassador of Burkina. In 1992, he will be recalled in his country, and he then decides to devote himself to the university tasks. He takes part in the reinforcement of the Arts department and communication which will become in 2000 Journalism and communication. He will be the head of department during a few years and in 2001 it creates the CERAM (African research and studies Center on the media) of which he will be the director.

Serge Theophilus Balima is the author of several publications within scientific magazines like Hermes directed by Dominique Wolton. He is also the author of books whose more current is that Co-writing with Marie-Sun Brother entitled Médias and social communications in Burkina Faso: socio-economic approach of the information flow .

Parallel to his university tasks and with research, Serge Theophilus Balima is also consulting international and is often solicited in various places in the world to take part in forums and other conferences university.
