Serge Nubret

Serge Nubret (born the October 6th 1938 with Handle Bertrand, north of the Large-Ground, Guadeloupe) is a body-builder, leader of federation, movie actor and, more recently, author of test, inter alia having gained the titles of Mr  Europe (1966), Mr  Universe (1976) and Mr  World (1977). It also pursued Arnold Schwarzenegger for the title of Mr  Olympia 1975, after being itself classified third in 1973. Its nickname is the “black panther”.

Youth

Serge Nubret spends his first years to Anse Bertrand, in a commune of 7  000  inhabitants. He carries out until 12  years a life rythmée by the plays in the open air before moving with his/her parents in Paris region during the year 1950. Inhabitant from now on on the commune of Joinville-le-Pont, it continues his secondary studies before choosing a commercial course. During its years of teenager and young adult, it makes little by little the experiment of its physical superiority on his comrades and includes/understands little by little what it calls in his book of reflection I am… Me and God , “raison d'être”, i.e. the destiny of champion fixed for him by God (named “I Am” in the work). It turns over to Guadeloupe in 1958 in order to escape enrôlement for the war from Algérie. It is at this period that he discovers the musculation, practiced in parallel with its activities of accountant for the paternal company. A practice that then does not encourage his/her father, concerned of the good walk of its community activities.

Beginnings in the body-building and entry in the cinema world

Three months after its first entry in a room of musculation, it gains the title of Mr  Guadeloupe, again obtained the following year. Envoy in 1960 with Montreal to defend the colors inhabitants of Guadeloupe, at the time of the championships of the world organized by IFBB. It is elected there “the most muscular man of the world”. Returned then in Paris without passing by the Guadeloupe, he is contacted by the ARIANE Films for a role in an Italian péplum of Duccio Tessari, the Titans left in 1961, prelude to a rich career of 25  films among which we will quote inter alia:

In the years 1980, it also appeared in the televised series in 60  episodes Breakfast included/understood , with Pierre Mondy and Marie-Christine Barrault, in which he plays a part of body-builder, in possession of a room of musculation in Paris, a role borrowing largely from his own biography.

Lastly, it makes an appearance in documentary the Pumping Iron , at the sides of Lou Ferrigno and Arnold Schwarzenegger, which recalls the unfolding of Mr  Olympia 1975, preparation with the contest like its final stage. For reasons of contract, its appearance is relatively short, certain scenes relating to it were thus not retained. These episodes are reported in its work, I am… Me and God .

The athlete and the leader

During the Seventies, Nubret finishes third in Olympia 1973 and second in 1975. Vice-president of the IFBB Europe of 1970 with 1975, Serge Nubret founds in 1976 WABBA. He contributes until in 1984, year at the time which he gains his last championship of the world with the WABBA. He will still make a demonstration with Gravelines in 2003, at the time of the championships of the world, at the age of 65  years.

I am… Me and God

In 2006, old of 68  years, Serge Nubret leaves I am… Me and God . Written in collaboration with Louis-Xavier Babin-Lachaud, the book makes the good share with the autobiography but especially with personal reflections on its Christian faith, and the very particular mysticism of the author. Through its account of life, it discusses the role of God in this world, on the conflict between destiny and free-referee and on the illusion of this world. More than one assembly of memories, the book testifies to the will to succeed and to follow the way traced by “I am”, of the love of the “raison d'être” of the author, who is not other than the body-building. A second work, entirely autobiographical, is to be come the coming out date is not yet known.
