Serge Haroche

Serge Haroche (1944 with Casablanca -) is a Physicien French of foreground working in the field of the Quantum physics.

Biography

It made its studies with the National university (ENS). It was Chercheur with CNRS, Lecturer to the Polytechnic school, Professor with the Université Pierre and Marie Curie and member of the Academic institute of France. He is today professor with the Collège de France.

He taught during several years with the Université Yale, the the United States and visited, like Enquiring or invited professor, several foreign universities of which Stanford, Harvard, the Massachusetts Institute off Technology and the federal university of Rio de Janeiro. He directed during five years the department of physics of ENS.

Serge Haroche is an atomic specialist in physical and Quantum optic. After a thesis on the Atom equipped carried out (1967-71) under the direction with Claude Cohen-Tannoudji, it developed in years 1970-80 of the new methods of Spectroscopie Laser based on the study of the quantum beats and the Superradiance. It was then interested in the atoms of Rydberg, atomic states giant that their sensitivity to the Micro-onde S returns adapted particularly well to fundamental studies on the Interaction matter-radiation. It showed that these atoms, coupled to superconductive cavities containing some Photon S, constitute Système S ideals to test the laws of the quantum Décohérence and to show that it is possible to carry out promising operations of quantum Logique for the treatment of the Information.

Named in 2001 professor with the Collège de France in the Pulpit of Quantum physics, Serge Haroche directs the quantum group of electrodynamic in cavity within the Laboratoire Kastler-Brossel of the department of physics of the ENS.

Cours 2006 at the Collège de France: quantum Information.

Serge Haroche is the uncle of the singer Raphaël Haroche, whose name of artist is simply: Raphael.
