Serge Daney (Paris, June 4th 1944 - June 12th 1992), is a French cinematographic critic. It left the film criticism to pass to a criticism of television and ended up developing a critical theory of the Image.
After having founded a review Faces of the Cinema in 1962, Serge Daney begins his career like criticism with the Cahiers from the cinema in 1964 (at the end of the yellow period - in reference to the color of the cover - period when criticisms like François Truffaut, Jean-Luc Godard, Eric Rohmer or Jacques Rivette pass to the realization and launch the New wave). After 1968 it carries out a series of voyages. It becomes, at the sides of Serge Toubiana, editor association of the Cahiers of the cinema in 1973, after one period of great theoretical debates and radical political commitment, on bottom of Maoism. It leaves celebrates it re-examined cinema in 1981.
In 1981 it joined the daily newspaper Libération , initially like critic film enthusiast, but with the will to create there a broader heading devoted to the image . It is interested particularly in the Télévision and written series of articles on televised films and the televisual programming. Of 1985 with 1990 it animates a weekly emission, Microfilms , on the radio France-Culture, where it receives a guest to speak about subjects having milked to the cinema. In 1991 it returns to cinematographic criticism and founds the quarterly review Trafic . Serge Daney dies of the continuations of the AIDS in 1992.
