Serb Banat
The Serb Banat (or Western Banat ) belonged to Voïvodine Serbe (in 1848/1849) and of Voïvodine of Serbia and Banat de Tamiš (between 1849 and 1860). After 1860, Banat Serbe belonged to the counties of Torontál and Temes of the Hungary of Habsbourg. The center of the county of Torontál county was Veliki Bečkerek (Hungarian: Nagybecskerek , Rumanian: Becicherecul Pond ), now Zrenjanin.
Geography
The area was a county of the Royaume of Serb, Croatian and Slovenien the between 1918 and 1922, and in 1929 it was built-in the Dunavska banovina (Banat Danubien), a province of the Royaume of Yugoslavia.
Between 1941 and 1944 Banat Serbe was occupied by the powers of the Axis. Formally it belonged to Serbia, but in fact it was an autonomous separate area controlled by its German minority. Since 1945 Serb Banat, with the Bačka and the Syrmie (Srem), is part of the Autonomous Province of Voïvodine.
In Serbia, the banat consists of plains. Corn, Rye, oats, Barley, Corn, hemp and Tournesol is cultivated, and the mineral richnesses consist of Pétrole and Natural gas. A popular tourist destination in Banat is Deliblatska Peščara. According to the census of 2002, the population of Banat Serbe was made up of: Serb (65%), Hungarian (18%), Rumanian, Slovak, etc
