Seraing
Seraing or Seraing-on-Meuse (in Walloon Serè ) is a French-speaking city of Belgium located in Walloon region in the Province of Liege.
It forms with Liege, Herstal, Saint Nicolas's Day, Ans and Flémalle the agglomeration of Liege (600 000 inhabitants). Seraing is one of the borders between the town part of Belgium, and the rural part. Indeed the dense city is bordered in the south by a vast forest beyond which extend the Condroz and the Ardenne.
The city counts July 1st, 2004, to 60.805 inhabitants including 31.947 women and to 28.858 men.
History
Old forms: 12th century Serani , 1147 Serang , 14th century Seraing on Mouze , Seraingne.
The form Dutchwoman (1931) Seraing-aan-with-Maas is not used any more.
Industrial town thanks to John Cockerill which decided to install its iron-foundries in area inhabitant of Li2ege.
Economy
Seraing has on its territory, with the Valley-Saint-Lambert, of very famous crystal manufactures established since 1826 on the site of an old Cistercian abbey.
